Organic cotton:
Not just a whole-world SOFTER, but BETTER for the whole world

Most luxury bedding tends to be made of conventional cotton which uses various hazardous chemicals throughout its production. Not only does it harm the farmers and the environment, it can also carry toxic substances which can then be absorbed by the skin as we sleep.

All Ara Living bedding is made of the finest GOTS certified 100% organic cotton. It’s better for the environment, better for our farmers, better for you and better for our generations to come

Organic vs Conventional

  Organic Conventional
Seed Preparation Natural, untreated, non-GMO cotton seeds. Seeds typically treated with fungicides or insecticides; potentially GMO.
Soil Preparation The soil remains healthy and retains moisture through natural crop rotation. Synthetic fertilizers used, loss of soil due to monocrop culture, intensive irrigation.
Water / Irrigation Cotton plant grows using rain-fed irrigation to preserve drinking water. Conventional cotton production uses around 11,000 litres of water for every kilogram of cotton produced, that’s 12,729 litres of water for one king size bed sheet!
Weed Control Healthy soil creates natural balance and allows for easy removal of weeds by hand. Additionally, natural agents like beneficial insects and trap crops used. Aerial spraying of insecticides and pesticides. 9 of the most commonly used pesticides are known cancer-causing agents.
Harvesting Natural defoliation/harvesting through the use of water management. Defoliation induced with toxic chemicals.
Dyeing Safe natural/vegetable dyes used. Chlorine bleaching creates toxic bi-products which are released into the environment.
Finishing Soft Scour in warm water with soda ash for a PH of 7.5-8. Hot water, synthetic surfactants, additional chemicals (sometimes formaldehyde).
Price Initial cost more expensive. Long term advantages priceless. Initially cheaper. Long-term impact on environment devastating.
